World Superbike Race 1.

 Phillip Island being Phillip Island turned on the weather after a pretty wet Friday ,as the weekend went on, the weather improved. Eugene Laverty rode from mid grid at the start to gradually overhaul the leaders and putting his Suzuki in front on the 17th lap and went on to win by 3 secs ,Eugene Laverty deserved to win after  a determined  ride for the flag .Marco Melandri riding his Aprilla rode well to go on and take the 2nd spot on the podium  beating Sylvain Guintoli who led the race for 16 laps managed to collect 3rd place. It was Suzuki’s first world superbike victory since 2010, and Laverty’s second at Phillip Island.while Davide Guigliano riding a Ducati finished fourth,  Loris Baz on a Kawasaki finally got the better of Jonathan Rea riding a Honda, while world champion Tom Sykes on the green machine  picked up some points for finishing 7th , Chaz Davies who was riding his own race back in 8th place picking up points as well. .Australia’s Glenn Allerton riding his BMW did a great job to hold off  Kawasaki  rider David Salom  .

The Casualties in race one included rookie Alex Lowes (Suzuki), Toni Elias (Aprilia) and Leon Haslam (Honda), who all crashed at high speed within the opening five laps.

Race 2 Well after the racing in the first race where it was hammer and tongs, the race was Red flagged after lap 14 due to the Suzuki’s engine  of Eugene Laverty’s bike exploding in a flash of flame and smoke,leaving a trail of oil across the track .Sylvain Guintoli took the top spot on the podium with Baz riding his Kawasaki to 2nd spot ,Tom Sykes on another Kawasaki claiming 3rd spot on the podium Guigliano was fourth, a couple of seconds clear of Rea, with Haslam sixth from Davies and Melandri, The leading Evo rider was again Salom in 10th position.Guintoli’s world superbike victory was the 24th for international riders at Phillip Island since 1990, while Aussies have won 23 – the first time the ledger has ever sided in favour of the visitors.

World Superbike Race 2

The World Supersport Championship race went to  Frenchman Jules Cluzel who made the perfect return to the championship, and brought back MV Agusta to international-winning form for the first time in 38 years. The race was reduced to a five-lap sprint after the first attempt was red-flagged, Cluzel pulled away from a five-strong pack on the final lap to win by 0.224 seconds, with Briton Kev Coghlan on a Yamaha taking second spot from Italian Raffaele de Rosa on a Honda, Frenchman Florian Marino (Kawasaki) and German Kevin Wahr (Yamaha).It was the first world supersport victory for MV Agusta, and its first world championship success since Giacomo Agostini at the Nurburgring way back in 1976!In 2014, Cluzel has returned to world supersport after a year in world superbike.

 In a race of drama’s, with favourite Kenan Sofuoglu on his Kawasaki  led every practice and qualifying session but then crashed out early in the race, while his rival Michael van der Mark riding a Honda was next to fall.It was a bad day for Australian hopes Billy McConnell on a Triumph and Bryan Staring riding a Honda, with the former crashing and Staring with a clutch problem while lying in eighth place. The first part of the race lasted six laps before Irishman Jack Kennedy’s Honda exploded, leaving his mark on parts of the circuit. American hopeful Patrick Jacobsen riding Kawasaki – team managed by Australia’s two-time world supersport champion Andrew Pitt -- retired in part one after his engine failed dropping valves in two cylinders.
